Knit Pants For My Boy

I have been busy making A LOT of knit pants, skirts and shorts.  Ethan has three new pairs of knit shorts for PJ's, Addison has several skirts that I'll post about later and Austin has a new pair of knit pants.  He doesn't really need them, but the fabric was so cute that I just had to do it.  I think I could even get away with him wearing them to church, if I put a nice button up shirt with them.

BOY STUFF! Knit Pants and Tie T-Shirts

I have found that, just like every other crafty Mom out there, making stuff for the little boys in my life is always a bit more challenging.  I'm drawn to the girly crafts.  Girl clothes and accessories = cute and super fun.  I can't help it.  Not only that, but the level of reaction I get out of my 3 year old girl vs my 3 year old boy when I hand them a newly sewn "thingamajig" is drastically different.  "Oh my gosh, I love it so much Mommy, it's SOOO cute!", is a very big motivator for me to make her more stuff.  BUT... I've been trying to be good, and have spent some time recently on boy stuff. 

I bought quite a bit of knit fabric in boy colors, with the intent to make pants.  So make pants I did.  I decided to start with a basic blue pant and pair it with a Tie T-Shirt.  I used this wonderful tutorial from Saltwater Kids for the Tie T-Shirt and then just used my PJ/lounge pants experience to make the pants.  Simple elastic waste bands for my boys are PLENTY fancy enough for everyday wear. 

I haven't been able to find a white plain t-shirt in an 18 month size yet, so I'm on hold with Austin's shirt until I can get my hands on one.  But I made Ethan one and also made one for my friends little boy for his 2 year birthday.  I used a thrifted mens dress shirt for the tie fabric and it turned out perfectly.

Here's a look at all the pants, laid out and ready to sew.  Freshly cut and pinned fabric makes me feel all warm and happy inside.

 
And here a few pathetically taken photos of the final outcome.  Maybe if I had a decent backdrop and took a photography class, my pics wouldn't look like garbage. Oh well, it's low on the priority list at the moment.

I did a fake drawstring on the waistband because I like the way it makes the pants look, just a bit more polished then a plain band.  And I made them all really long and gave them big thick hems so that I can make the pants last for a couple years.  With the rate at which Ethan's waist is growing, he'll be able to wear these for the next 4 years.  No joke.

And here are my two super handsome boys sporting the new look.  (Austin minus the tie shirt of course)  Seeing these guys looking so cute in their new duds does help inspire me to make more boy stuff. Come summertime that will be all I'm doing (shorts, shorts and more shorts).

PJ Lounge Pants - Super Funky Vintage

I actually made something for myself!  Wahoo!

Back before Christmas, when I was shopping for vintage sheets for my Mom and sisters, I found a sheet that was screaming "make me into something cute!".  So I bought it and selfishly saved it for myself.  I couldn't help it, I just liked it too much.  And today I finally got around to turning this funky vintage sheet into super comfortable, ultra soft and lightweight PJ pants.  They follow the same style I wrote about last month HERE.

I just wish my pathetic lighting and average camera did them better justice.  The colors are just not even close in these pictures.  Oh well!

 

 

And since I haven't had time to write about the boys PJ pants I made from a sheet, I'm just going to add them here and not worry about it anymore.  I made Ethan, Austin, Kaden and Asher all PJ Pants out of one sheet. And I still have fabric left.  In fact, just a couple days ago I used some of it to make a cold therapy bag for my brother-in-law that had surgery on his knee.  And I STILL have fabric left.  Not bad for $4.00, makes me feel thrifty.  (Now if I could only extend that into all areas of my life!)

Vintage Lounge Pants

Vintage Lounge Pants is just a fancy way of saying PJ Pants!

I got the idea to use vintage bed sheets as fabric for PJ pants from Ducky House.  Used sheets make awesome lounge pants because they are already super soft and are really inexpensive.  I made two pairs of adult pants for $4.00.  The best part was not having to hem the bottom of the pants when using a flat sheet.  But I admit that it was tough to find cute vintage sheets so I ended up used a couple of fitted sheets for the pants and had to go ahead and hem the bottoms.  Not too big of deal when the sheet fabric is so dang cute.

I used several different blogs to come up with the perfect pattern and method for making the pants.  Over the month of December I sewed TEN pairs of PJ pants.  Definitely a pro at PJ pants now!  I'll post some of the non-vintage pairs in a separate post.

The pictures of these white pants really don't do them justice.  They are so cute and so lightweight and soft.  And I used orange thread to highlight the orange in some of the flower print.  And I love the thick hem at the bottom of pants from the natural hem in the sheets.

I'll have to try and get a better picture of the other pairs.  I made both Kahly and my Mom's pants out of this same yellow sheet.  And I made the scarf she is wearing too, from this tutorial on Make It and Love It.
